New Customer Authentication Procedure for Telephone Inquiries/Transactions - Beginning Nov. 1 Mainstreet Bank has established a new customer authentication procedure for telephone inquiries or transactions you initiate. Effective November 1, 2008, Mainstreet Bank will require this protocol for phone inquiries and transactions to our branches for both personal and business accounts.
Banking regulators have jointly issued a mandatory November 1, 2008, deadline to all financial institutions to comply with new regulations referred to as the Red Flag Rules of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act. One of the rules requires financial institutions to authenticate a customer's identity in order to detect, prevent and mitigate identity theft.
When you call the bank and speak to a representative, one of the ways we will authenticate your identity, is by asking personal accountholders a security question and our business customers for a password. Your answer should be something only you should know and not easy for anyone else to guess. To establish this procedure, a form must be completed and verified by a Mainstreet Bank employee.
Please keep all your passwords secure. Mainstreet Bank will not contact you by phone or e-mail requesting you to update or verify any confidential information we have on file (such as your online access ID, online password or ATM PIN). If such an incident were to occur, please contact us immediately.
